GEORGE NEWS - A first year marketing management student from South Cape College was selected runner-up in the Mr Tourism SA beauty pageant which was held in Johannesburg recently. The event seeks to promote tourism and cultural diversity in South Africa.
Buchule Kanana (20), who is from the Eastern Cape but currently resides in Thembalethu, competed against models from all over the country in the prestigious pageant.
Kanana started modelling about a year ago. Motivated by his sister who encouraged him to take modelling seriously, he joined Refine & Render Modelling School, which has helped him start his career.
He says doing this well in such a competition is an honour for someone who has just started modelling. "I was aiming for the first prize, but being a first prince is also not bad. This means I am on the right track to grow and win more competitions." Kanana says he loves modelling and hopes that one day he can start his own agency to help groom young models.
"Modelling gives me confidence to speak and stand in front of many people and helps me to love and believe in myself."
