"The main objective of this project is to offer positive alternatives to the youth so that they do not become involved in alcohol or drug abuse," explained Denise de Beer, a social worker at Sanca George. The project is aimed at school youths between the ages of 16-25 and includes educational programmes on healthy lifestyles, drug abuse, HIV/Aids and TB-related illnesses. It further aims to equip youths with skills such as computer skills.
The Life Skills and Recreational project further hopes to develop the life skills of the out-of-school youths as well as motivate these youths to further their education through adult learning and basic education or government schools.
"We aim to encourage out-of-school youths to participate in constructive recreational activities," said De Beer.
Any donations towards this project will be welcome. "We especially need someone to mow the sport field on a regular basis. Sport clothing and gear is also one of our greater needs." Enquiries can be directed to Denise de Beer at Sanca George on 044 884 0674.
Youths are invited to participate in activities on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 16:00.
