GEORGE NEWS - Visitors during the holiday season did not have a very significant impact on the average daily water consumption in George and the Garden Route Dam level stood at a satisfactory 96,24% as at 8 January.
According to Civil Engineering Services director Jannie Koegelenberg, the average daily consumption during the season was 34Ml per day compared with the 33,7Ml daily average during the past 12 months.
"Our peak demand over the season period was 37Ml per day," he said.
George Municipality's water restrictions limit every household to a monthly usage of 15 kilolitres and emergency tariffs are charged for usage above 15kl.
Gardens can be watered only with cans or buckets, any time of the day. No hosepipes are allowed.
The municipality has handy water saving tips for the garden and home on its web site and it calls on all residents to give their cooperation.
It encourages adapting gardens by planting drought resistant plants and investigating alternative water sources, rainwater tanks and grey water systems.
