GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA says that they are in the midst of "kitten season". Almost all of the unspayed females seen at the SPCA are pregnant with kittens that most owners do not want.
The Adopt-a-Spay programme encourages anyone who can afford even a small amount to help pay for the sterilisation of an animal whose owners cannot afford private vet fees. Every animal that is neutered or spayed helps bring down the tide of abandoned, murdered and neglected kittens.
If you can help with even a small amount please e-mail SPCA volunteer Antoinette Wissink at antoinettewissink@gmail.com and she will guide you through the very easy steps that need to be taken. You can also call the SPCA offices on 044 878 1990.
If you cannot afford to take your cat to the vet, you can come to the day clinic at the SPCA premises in Ossie Urban Street, Tamsui Industria or phone 071 658 7353.
The clinic is open Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 13:00 for walk-ins and between 14:00 and 16:00 for appointments only.
