GEORGE NEWS - An eyewitness who was on the beach late yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 3 February, when a young girl had to be resuscitated on the beach, contacted George Herald with her version of events.
According to the eyewitness, who wishes to have her name withheld, the girl (14) and her father were having fun in the shallow water.
“They were right next to me. The girl was on her boogie board and her father was there with her all the time. Her swimming cap came off and as she swam forward to grab it, she went under water. She wasn’t under the water for very long before her father pulled her out and brought her to the beach,” she said.
She said everyone gathered around the girl and her father in an attempt to help.
“Beachgoers with medical experience were applying CPR while others were phoning emergency services. Someone even arrived with a defibrillator which they could use. She really did get the best care that was available on the beach until the ambulance arrived.”
The girl was successfully resuscitated and taken to hospital by ER24 paramedics. She is believed to be in a critical but stable condition. More information about her medical condition is unavailable.
