GEORGE NEWS - George Mayor, Leon van Wyk today, Friday 6 August, called on local religious organisations to observe an official Covid-19 time of prayer on Saturday 14 August at 15:00.
Van Wyk said the alarming rate of increased infections and deaths had an immense impact on citizens of George, including many working at the municipality.
According to the Western Cape Covid-19 dashboard, the latest figures (yesterday 5 August) for active Covid-19 cases in George were 2 574.
“We are calling on faith-based organisations in the George municipal area to support a time of prayer of 30-40 minutes on the above date and time, with each denomination making their own arrangements in this regard, observing strict Covid-19 protocol in whichever format they choose to observe this.
“We ask that they pray for recovery of those who are ill, the safety of our citizens and medical and frontline personnel, as well as in remembrance of those who have already lost their lives and for the people they have left behind.”
Religious organisations that intend observing such a time are requested to communicate their participation and arrangements through their own communication channels and platforms to their congregants and community.
