GEORGE NEWS - The George Arts Theatre is truly a place where dreams can come true.
"Those living in the Garden Route are extremely fortunate to have one of the few surviving working community theatres in South Africa, right in the middle of town," says Carina Beukes, writer and producer of the theatre's third Disney tribute show: Still Wishing, Rise of the Villains.
"The theatre is accessible and visible, and it is an open invitation for everyone in the area to become part of the Arts."
The cast and crew of Still Wishing, Rise of the Villains, will perform at the George Arts Theatre from 28 February till 10 March.
"The amazing part of it all is the fact that every single person involved in this production is doing it after hours, for the love of theatre!" says Beukes.
"Most people don’t know that 99% of those on stage have never had a day’s worth of formal stage craft training and that there is a very good chance that you will run into the leading lady or villainous antihero or talented child somewhere in the Garden Route doing their 'day job'.
"They move and sing and dance and act so confidently and seem very comfortable to be on stage and to perform in front of people. Not to mention the writers, producers, directors, technical and backstage crews that make everything happen."
Tickets are available from Computicket and at the theatre booking office at 125 York Street in George. The theatre is open from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 16:00, excluding public holidays.
Little ones can enter a colouring-in competition. Choose your favourite character and stand a chance to own your own authentic Ariel wig. Collect a colouring-in picture at the theatre when you purchase a ticket, or download from their facebook page "George Arts Theatre".
