GEORGE NEWS - Following a complaint from a resident from Eden, an electrical box in Bokmakierie Street will receive some much-needed attention.
Fixing the problem will, however, result in a day without electricity for three streets in the neighbourhood.
"In the case referred to, the kiosk appears to have been damaged by a vehicle and our teams have made the kiosk safe previously," said Bongani Mandla, Director of the Electrotechnical Directorate. "Our teams will prioritise the work at the kiosk this week, but it will mean that two to three streets will be without power for a full day."
He explained that, while load-shedding is already heavily impacting consumers, they prefer not to initiate repairs that would leave consumers without electricity for a full day, unless there is an emergency.
The complainant said he/she made use of the existing municipal app to report the problem twice (December 2022 and January 2023), but thinks the problem might be more related to "lack of action" than a problem with the app itself.
"The status of the box is obviously a dangerous situation," said the complainant. "Where would the liability lie if someone gets injured (or even worse), given that this is an accessible area for people/children?"
Mandla said his directorate will investigate the matter to find why the complaint reported via the app was not attended to.
