GEORGE NEWS - George Municipal Vehicle Testing Station is open for determining roadworthiness of motor vehicles in accordance with the requirements of SANS 10047 code.
Roadworthiness testing is designed to evaluate the safe condition of the vehicle; and is not designed or introduced to protect the customer against a possible bad buy.
Roadworthiness test is only valid at the time of examination. The vehicle is subjected to progressive deterioration and parts and assemblies can be changed for worn parts after the examination.
When a vehicle passes the test, the testing station certifies that the vehicle is roadworthy by updating the particulars relating to that vehicle on the E- Natis database.
The inspection criteria are limited to safety and identification.
Hours of operation
Monday to Friday – 08:00 to 15:00 for application.
Other hours, when required to eleviate the backlog will be advertised on social media, and the Municipal website. The Covid-19 lockdown has however had a huge impact on the services required to render an effective service for the identified needs.

- Lighting and reflectors
- Safety design
- Additional Inspections for busses and mini-buses
Vehicles must comply with specifications listed in SANS 10047 and the test must be carried out as prescribed by the SANS 10047 code.
Inspection are designed to determine the safety of the vehicle and to ensure that vehicles are always roadworthy.
The centre is currently open to the public with all Covid-19 safety protocols adhered to.
