Update
GEORGE NEWS - A fire at the old crocodile farm in York Street has been burning on and off for the past week and by Tuesday morning the George Fire Brigade was still monitoring a number of smouldering tree stumps.
It was a grass fire on the outside area and there was no damage to any infrastructure.
The newly opened Denneoord Aerial Fire Base was put to good use on Monday to quench a fire that started at the foot of the mountain near Denneoord.
A spotter plane, bomber and chopper attended to the fire. Fire Chief Neels Barnard confirmed that the back of the fire was broken after approximately 30 minutes.
"The aerial assistance makes an incredible difference," said Barnard.
"We had a good number of Denneoord residents watching the action - with comments ranging from 'Wow' to 'Awesome'."
