GEORGE NEWS - The George Fire Department and Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) came to the rescue of three dogs from Thembalethu on Tuesday 19 July.
According to GRSPCA's public relations officer, Amber du Preez, they received a call from a dog owner when his dog and two others were stuck in a cement pit in Thembalethu.
Two of the GRSPCA inspectors, Estelanie van Wyk and Andrea Auerbach, responded to the scene assisted by kennel carer Robbie Kamfer and the George Fire Department.
The dogs were stuck in the pit and had no way of getting out by themselves.
"The fire department graciously offered the use of their ladder and assisted the members of the community and the GRSPCA personnel to reach the dogs in the cement pit," said Du Preez.
"They were brought out of the pit and taken to the George SPCA branch for sterilisation at our clinic. Our team is privileged to have a great relationship with the George Fire Department and their assistance is much appreciated."
The dogs were brought to safety and the owners and community educated about the safety of their animals and the importance of sterilisation and proper care.
