GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - The newly opened Aerial Fire Base in Denneoord is being put to good use today.
A spotter plane, bomber and chopper are in the air attending to a fire in the Outeniqua Mountains.
Fire Chief Neels Barnard confirmed that the back of the fire was nearly broken after approximately 30 minutes.
"The aerial assistance make an incredible difference," said Barnard.
"We have a good number of Denneoord residents watching the action - with comments ranging from 'Wow' to 'Awesome'."
