GEORGE NEWS - Among the countless sentimental valuables that were destroyed when the German couple's Wendy house next to their home in Werda Street was razed to the ground, was Lutz Springborne's BMW superbike. The replacement value of this bike is between R240 000 and R350 000, depending on the extras.
The main house was not damaged and luckily no one was injured in the fire.
"We don't know how the fire started. We woke up to the smell of smoke and when I went outside to have a look, the Wendy house was on fire. Our neighbour tried to douse the flames, but it all happened so quickly," said Springborne's devastated wife, Gabi.
The George fire brigade was notified immediately, but by the time they arrived on the scene it was too late to save anything.
Apart from Springborne's motorbike the couple lost a large number of memorabilia that was stored in the Wendy house.
"We are thankful that no one was injured and that none of our neighbours' properties were damaged," said Gabi.
