SEDGEFIELD NEWS - A father of three drowned while fishing with his children aged 16, 7 and 5 in Swartvlei Lake near Sedgefield on Friday 4 January.
Mogamad Fahried Adams (45) took his children out on a small rented boat at Pine Lake Marina on Friday afternoon while they were on holiday visiting friends.
When they hadn't returned by nightfall, Adam's wife and friends raised the alarm and other residents started searching with jet-skis.
According to Mike Vonk, NSRI Wilderness deputy station commander, the children were found at 20:30 swimming to shore.
Only the five-year old boy was wearing a life-jacket.
"The children said the boat they were on had capsized and after they lost sight of their dad they started swimming to shore," he said.
At 21:45 the NSRI and other emergency services were alerted and an extensive water and shoreline search commenced.
Adams's body was found at 02:00 on Saturday morning.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
