GEORGE NEWS - More than a quarter of a century ago, when Fancourt was bought by Hasso and Sabine Plattner and transformed into a luxury hotel and resort with top golf courses, they were joined by some dedicated staff.
Five staff members who remember those pioneering days were honoured during a long-service awards ceremony held on 3 May at the Fancourt Ballroom. The awards were handed over by Georgie Davidson, CEO of Fancourt, at the general staff meeting. Duppie du Plessis (stores), Helen Mayila (La Cantina), Jan van Rooyen (stores) and Shadrack Lenoga (maintenance) were honoured for their dedication and received service awards for their 25 years with the hotel.
Fancourt employee Charmell Cloete, a waitron at Monets, was named the Employee of the Year.
"You showed extraordinary passion for the company, its product and its services. You have a work ethic that shows ownership, dedication and pride," said Davidson on handing her the award.
Moses Khumalo, assistant superintendent of golf course maintenance, received the Hasso Platter award, which recognises him as a person who lives the company values and consistently delivers extraordinary customer service.
Diano Jantjies, restaurant manager at La Cantina, was named the "high-flyer" employee in recognition of the fact that she developed herself both personally and in terms of skills and knowledge, while moving up in the ranks.
Moses Kumalo received the Hasso Plattner award.
