GEORGE NEWS - If you're looking for an exciting activity to do with your family and friends, make a note of Saturday 25 September, when you can take part in the Amazing Race.
The event is organised in aid of the Zenzele Aftercare Centre in Blanco.
The centre is a youth development initiative that wants to attract youngsters aged 13 to 18, but parents and members of the community are welcome to participate - it promises to be a load of fun and is for a good cause. Participants enter in teams and the race is guaranteed to test their teamwork, strategic thinking, physical fitness, creativity and guts. Lots of great prizes are up for grabs.
The entry fee is R50 per team of two. For more information, contact Elzenith Williams on 061 254 2727 or e-mail zenzeleaftercare@gmail.com. You can enter your team at Zenzele Aftercare at 9 Factory Street, Blanco.
Zenzele
Zenzele is a non-profit organisation in Blanco that takes care of approximately 70 primary school children between the ages of five and 14 years as well as a number of high school pupils aged 15 to 18. They are collected from school and brought to the aftercare centre where their homework is supervised. They also receive a nutritious, balanced meal.
The centre's main focus is on reading, writing and math literacy. The teachers help the children grow in confidence, and encourage the youngsters to stay in school, off the streets and out of crime.
The centre also organises outings to expand the horisons of children. As part of the programme they do fundraising projects like the upcoming Amazing Race.
