GEORGE NEWS - Eden District Municipality (Eden DM) will be hosting a Green Energy Summit from 11 to 12 April at Fancourt in George.
During 2016, Eden DM took its first step of going greener when it invested in a solar system at the head office in York Street. The concept of green energy is a key priority of the Eden council and is reflected in its spatial development framework.
At the summit, Eden DM and other stakeholders will discuss opportunities for collaboration to support local green energy initiatives in the district. Eden and the B municipalities will be able to formulate an action plan for the region as a whole.
The focus will also be on successful local business stories and applicable local case studies to promote an environment conducive to local investment. Solutions for eliminating red tape will also be discussed - a hurdle that has caused huge headaches with green initiatives in the past.
Western Cape Provincial Energy Security Game Changer project, Green Cape, relevant national and provincial government departments, the local municipalities in Eden, Nersa, Sanedi, Salga, research entities, NGOs and local green energy stakeholders are expected to attend the event.
