GEORGE NEWS - Eden Cluster police has welcomed Lieutenant-General Yolisa Matakata as the newly appointed Western Cape Police Commissioner.
Matakata visited George last Thursday, 30 January, to introduce herself to the region's men and women in blue.
Matakata, who has over 30 years of experience in the police force, was acting head of the Hawks before Godfrey Lebeya was appointed in the position in May 2018. She was announced last month as the new permanent head of the police in the province, succeeding Khombinkosi Jula, who took over the reins in KwaZulu-Natal.
Eden Cluster Commander Major-General Oswald Reddy described Matakata as a person who has motherly love and said he believes that her personality and style of leadership will bring much-needed positive change in the province.
Matakata, who has a five-year contract in the province, said she hopes that at the end of this period people will feel much safer. "My objective is that the people of the province will be able to say that they feel safe in terms of our visibility in communities," she said.
