GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The illegal drug trade in the George area suffered a significant setback as law enforcement authorities seized drugs with an estimated street value of R2,1 million in Thembalethu over the weekend.
On Sunday 18 February, Outeniqua K9 members acted on intelligence regarding illicit drug activities and raided a house in Zone 8 where they discovered that the premises had been abandoned by its occupants.
Police uncovered and confiscated 36 550 Mandrax tablets, 300g of heroin, and 532g of tik on the premises.
An investigation into the discovery is currently underway, and the suspect is yet to be apprehended.
In an unrelated incident on Saturday 17 February, members of the Albertinia and Kwanonqaba police conducted patrols along the N2 highway near Albertinia.
During the patrol, they encountered two men, and upon searching them, discovered 500 Mandrax tablets in their possession.
Both suspects, aged 26 and 47 and of Kenyan nationality, were arrested on charges of drug dealing and remain in police custody.
Meanwhile, members of the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team carried out operations in Mossel Bay on Saturday night in which seven suspects were arrested on drug-related charges after drugs were found in their possession.
The police confiscated 80 Mandrax tablets, 20g of tik, as well as small quantities of heroin and dagga.
All those arrested will appear in their respective courts once charged.
