GEORGE NEWS - A very special gathering will take place at the Outeniqua Shellhole in Rijk Tulbach Street, George today, 9 October. Not only the Garden Route's Moth Shellhole members will get together around potjiekos pots, but they will be joined by veterans from all units and backgrounds.
An airplane fly-past over the venue will add a special touch to the event, which is being organised as an opportunity for veterans from all units and backgrounds to get to know each other better, and take a walk down memory lane.
The gathering takes the form of a potjiekos competition starting at 12:00.
The fly-past will be just after starting time.
Each potjie entrant is responsible to provide for a minimum of 10 servings.
Potjie meals, to be dished up at 17:00, will be sold at R70 per meal and are open to all.
Potjie meal sales will be sit-down, takeaway or camping style.
Everyone must bring their own equipment, camp chairs and cutlery. Outeniqua Shellhole will supply a large pot of rice and fire wood.
The total meal sales will be divided among participating units as fund-raisers.
There will be music to liven things up, and professional chefs will provide a master of ceremonies and do the judging.
In addition to best potjiekos prizes, there will be a prize for the best story told / joke by a potjie team, and prizes for lucky draws.
The Outeniqua Shellhole cash bar will be open.
