GEORGE NEWS - It was a quarter to seven when the first two Grade 1s arrived for their very first day in big school at Denneoord Primary.
Chelsea Appels looked as fresh as an apple when she and her mom, Haylene Appels, approached to meet her teacher, Anel Oosthuizen.
Moments later little Imboyethu Jantjies and his parents, Babawa and Andile Jantjies, arrived together to share the moment as a family.
It is Oosthuizen's third year at Denneoord Primary and she enjoys every moment of it. The top South African race walker describes teaching as a welcome addition to her life.
"I always knew I won't further my studies in athletics, because it is important to have some balance in your life. Teaching provides the perfect platform to help with the development of children and really fits in with athletics, which pretty much does the same."
