GEORGE NEWS - A 28-year-old suspect will appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of dealing in cannabis and reckless and negligent driving.
This after a consignment of dagga was confiscated en route from the Eastern Cape.
Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase today in a press release confirmed the incident took place on Thursday 11 June.
He said it was a team effort with the George Serious Organized Crime Investigation members, assisted by the Public Order Policing, Crime Intelligence, K9 unit and Eden Cluster Combating Task Team.
He says the driver of the vehicle jumped out during the chase, leaving the moving vehicle to veer off the road.
Nkwalase said the team reacted on information about a vehicle that was travelling from the Eastern Cape to George transporting dagga. “A vehicle matching the description was spotted in Wilderness and police vehicles gave chase.”
He said the driver managed to get away, but a passenger was left in the vehicle and sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Nkwalase said the joint team managed to seize a consignment of dagga valued at approximately R500 000.
The suspect has since been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Dagga to the value of approximately R500 000 was seized.
