GEORGE NEWS - Yet another horror story played off in the lives of the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) team on Tuesday 16 August when inspector Andrea Auerbach collected an "injured dog" from Conville.
"We had an anonymous tip-off from a community member about a dog that had been suffering severely due to a horrible injury to its neck. According to the complainant, this dog had been living with this injury for a few weeks," said GRSPCA's public relations officer, Amber du Preez.
They found that the dog had an elastic band around its neck which had cut into its skin and through the trachea. The skin had started growing back over the elastic band, leaving the inside infected.
"What saddened us the most was that the owner lives within walking distance of the PDSA, but still they chose to let their poor dog suffer," she said.
Due to the extent of its injuries the dog had to be euthanised and the SPCA will be laying charges under the Animals Protection Act.
