GEORGE NEWS - An MTN client, Reuben Gerber, is unhappy about the monthly subscription fee of his two-year contract with MTN that will be increased from 1 May, while his contract is only a year old.
"When I took out the contract, the impression was created that the monthly payment would remain the same for two years. That was why I took the contract," said Gerber.
But there are terms and conditions that clients should acquaint themselves with before signing up for a contract.
MTN confirms that it recently announced a price increase to most of its contract subscriptions.
"The subscriber agreement that customers sign when taking out a contract, along with the terms and conditions on the website are clear that MTN can amend its charges from time to time, provided we give customers 20 working days' notice by SMS," says Mthokozisi Ndlovu of the public relations department.
"In the past few years, MTN has worked to avoid increases to its subscription pricing, however, sustained inflationary pressures and increased input costs have meant price adjustments have become unavoidable.
The Terms and Conditions pages on MTN's website are great in number, but somewhere in there clients should find their contract type and the Ts and Cs that apply to them.
From 1 May, there will be an increase of approximately 4% and in some instances, it will be slightly more, to align to market-related pricing. Even though some packages increased by more than 4%, others attracted no increase at all." Clients can view the terms and conditions of their contracts on the MTN website.
