GEORGE NEWS - At least 2 000 children from different schools in George took part in a fun run on Saturday morning, 27 October, at Thembalethu Square.
Participants took part in two divisions: 2km and 5km. Amongst the spectators that came to support the children was former mayor of George, Charles Standers, who currently is a teacher at Parkdene Primary.
The first fun run was held in 2013 when Thembalethu Square was one year old.
Heloise Terblanche, operational manager of Thembalethu Square, said there are plans in the pipeline to add a 10km run to the event next year.
Terblanche emphasised that one of the main aims of the event is to bring the community together, and judged by this yardstick it was a huge success. Driven by the community, the event has been growing every year.
She thanked the schools for their positive attitude and help, without which it wouldn't have been such a success. She also thanked other role players such as SWD Athletics and the traffic department.
