GEORGE NEWS - A bogus money collector is doing the rounds in George. The woman was spotted collecting in the CBD earlier this week.
Sue du Toit, director of George Child and Family Welfare (GCW), says Craig Field of Postnet George contacted the organisation to report the so-called fundraiser. “Field told us that the woman claims to be collecting money for her son Ruan, who has to have an operation which will enable him to write.”
The woman says she has to raise in the region of R6 500 and from the donation sheet it seems as if she has been quite successful. She also tells people that “Mariaan” from Child Welfare will contact each person on the list and send a document to the donor.
Du Toit warned: “Child Welfare will never go door-to-door to ask for donations. GCW will also never collect for an individual.”
