GEORGE NEWS - The quick response by armed response officers recently led to the arrest of a suspect who was allegedly trespassing at a local primary school. When Fidelity ADT's monitoring centre received multiple alarm signals from a primary school in Thembalethu, two officers were deployed to search the school grounds. Officer Dumisa Mila was the first to arrive.
Mila and his colleague investigated the school grounds and heard footsteps on the roof. They saw several items lying outside the open door of a classroom. The suspect was spotted on the roof and instructed to make his way down.
When he refused to cooperate, Mila climbed up onto the roof, where he apprehended the suspect.
Steven Green, Fidelity ADT Garden Route manager, says their officers are well trained and know exactly how to respond to an incident where they have to search a large property, such as in this case.
"We would like to commend officer Mila for his excellent service and vigilance. He did an excellent job in following protocol effectively and made the correct decisions in the heat of the moment.
"Our officers are often the unsung heroes of society as they put themselves at risk to look after the safety of the greater George community. I thank them for their team work, which led to the arrest of this suspect.
"I am especially proud of them for responding to an incident at a primary school. Anyone who sees institutions of learning as targets for their criminality, should expect to end up behind bars," says Green.
