GEORGE NEWSFLASH - New life has been blown into the annual Christmas Lights Festival, which celebrates the switching on of George’s decorative seasonal lights and the upcoming holiday season.
Taking place on Saturday, 2 December, from 14:00 in Union Square at the top of York Street, the festivities will be Christmas-orientated.
It will include a fun-filled children’s and youth programme, Carols by Candlelight, live entertainment by rap star Early B, Moses Williams and other local music artists, food, arts and crafts stalls and more.
The lights switching on ceremony starts at 19:30.
George Municipal Manager Trevor Botha said the festival had lost momentum over the years but is being given new life under the capable administration of Social Services Portfolio Councillor Mercia Draghoender and teams from the Community Services Directorate.
“The festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a strong Christmas focus and more fun.
"A strict no-alcohol policy and increased safety measures will be in place to ensure a good family outing that sends a message of hope, goodwill and seasonal blessing," said Botha.
Roads affected during the George Christmas Lights Festival are indicated in the map below. Roads will be closed from 12:00 until 22:00.
