GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Air show that was planned to take place on 20 August at the George Airport, has been cancelled. This was confirmed earlier today by Brett Scheuble, the organiser.
He stressed that it is canceIled and not postponed, citing safety guarantees. “The organisers had everything in place, but local organisations and authorities could not provide guarantees for safety.”
Earlier he wrote on Facebook: “Please believe that this is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but believe that the public of the Garden Route deserve to have an air show, and we are looking into other options with the intent of having an air show in the future.”
George Herald understands the show was originally planned for 26 April 2020, but had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions. With the Covid restrictions lifted, they intended holding it on 16 July 2022, but it was postponed again, to 20 August.
“We will never do an air show again in George,” Scheuble said. They are now looking for a different locality to hold the show.
