GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Several events were held across George to celebrate Youth Day on Saturday 16 June.
From a colour walk organised by the Inkcubeko Youth and Science centre in Thembalethu, to a park jam in Pacaltsdorp, with even some businesses in the CBD climbing on the bandwagon, this day was celebrated in style.
On Youth Day, South Africans honour the role the youth played in fighting and overcoming the inequality and oppression caused by apartheid, marked by 16 June 1976, when a number of children were killed by police in Soweto during a peaceful protest against the enforcement of Afrikaans as tutoring language in schools.
Today, 16 June is a South African public holiday.
Youth Day celebrations are held countrywide to empower individuals of all ethnicities in South Africa and to remember those who lost their lives. Kristy Kolberg went out with her camera to capture some of these moments.
