GEORGE NEWS - Three suspects in their 40s were apprehended shortly after they allegedly broke into a car and stole R30 000 in York Street on Friday afternoon, 12 April.
The owner of the vehicle parked her car in the parking area in front of Mediclinic George to pick up medication. On her return she found the car unlocked and the money gone.
According to George police communi-cations officer, Capt Nolonwabu Tshengu, eyewitnesses told the woman that a man had been in and out of her car in a matter of minutes. "They said the man got into a white Nissan Almera with two other men and fled from the scene," Tshengu said.
"Police responded quickly to the crime scene and collected vital information that led to their arrest. The suspects are allegedly involved in various syndicates."
The investigating officer immediately flagged the registration number of the vehicle and asked surrounding police stations to be on the lookout for the suspects.
News of the incident spread like wildfire on social media platforms and police caught the men shortly thereafter on the N2 between Heidelberg and Swellendam.
According to Tshengu, the vehicle was identified by farmers in the Heidelberg area, which enabled the police to arrest them.
All three suspects are in custody in George and will appear in the George Magistrate's Court on 30 April for a bail application.
