GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEOS - The 8th annual George Herald Sandwich Jam took place at our factory in Ring Road today.
The goal was to make 10 000 sandwiches in 67 minutes, in celebration of Mandela Day.
Thanks to our amazing teams, we reached our goal in just 53 minutes!
The sandwiches will now be distributed to local organisations and schools. (See list of beneficiaries further down.)
In her welcome speech, Group Editors' Operations Director, Nicole Rimbault, said: "Madiba taught us the greatest of life’s lesson’s; he taught us to lead from behind, he taught us how to forgive and move forward without resentment, he taught us that the impossible can be achieved and he taught us to invest in our future by investing in our children, because education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

Reading project
Two years ago, the George Herald decided that making sandwiches once a year to honour Madiba was just not enough. We then launched the Ordinary Magic for Madiba Reading Campaign.
It encompasses Madiba’s passion for education and has gained a tremendous amount of support.
"Our Ordinary Magic for Madiba campaign is a project that I hope you will all support and be a part of as we continue to build on it," added Rimbault. "This project cannot be achieved in 67 minutes, but Madiba did not just give us 67 minutes a year of his time, he gave us his life and showed us how to live."
