GEORGE NEWS - An arrest is still to be made after a man, Lukhaniyo Mfengu (37), was shot and killed in Zone 6, Thembalethu, on Sunday 29 May.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the incident happened at around 06:45 that morning.
On their arrival, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the left side of his stomach. He was transported to hospital in a critical condition where he later died.
On the same morning a badly assaulted man was found near a river in the same area. He was admitted to hospital in a serious condition and is still fighting for his life.
"The circumstances of this incident are under investigation and it still needs to be confirmed whether these incidents are related," said Pojie.
No arrests have been made.
On Saturday 28 May another Thembalethu man, Loyiso Bavami (39), was killed when he was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Siyatanda Mponqa (31), during an altercation near All Bricks in Zone 8.
According to Pojie, the victim sustained a stab wound to his neck and died on the scene. The suspect was arrested and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 31 May, where the case was postponed to 27 July.
