GEORGE NEWS - The DA took by far the most seats in George in the 2021 local government election, but its 26 seats are not enough for the party to call the shots in the 55 seat strong council.
This means the DA will be looking for coalition partners to vote with its own councillors to ensure the ‘blue wave’ rules supreme in George. The ANC came second with 10 seats and Good managed to secure 6 seats in total.
The IEC has confirmed that eight political parties will be represented in the new George Council. While the DA, ANC and Good won various wards, the PBI, VF+, EFF, ACDP and the PA only managed to secure Proportional Representative (PR) seats in council.
The George council comprises of 55 councillors in total and the new-look council will be made up as follows:
