GEORGE NEWS - The PBI has noted with great concern the media statement released by Patricia de Lille, leader of the Good party. We wish to put the record straight with reference to certain elements of the statement.
It is of critical importance to understand that it was the PBI that first uncovered the alleged corruption within the George Municipality. This was accompanied by extensive investigative efforts by PBI Councillor, Virgill Gericke.
It was the PBI that submitted a motion of exigency to the George Municipal Council, to investigate the possible corruption with regard to investments made by certain high ranking officials.
The matter has been dealt with confidentially and due process is being followed. The relevant law enforcement agencies are presently dealing with the case.
As a represented political party in the George City Council, we are aggrieved by this sudden
so-called "revelations"by De Lille. The PBI has exposed this alleged corruption almost a year ago when the Good Party was not even in existence.
It was exposed when Mrs De Lille was still the DA Executive Mayor for Cape Town, enjoying the benefits of a party that has forgotten to serve the poor and the needy.
It is a despicable act of the leader of Good to callously claim that her party has exposed this
corruption.
It is evident of a politically bankrupt party that has no track record, preying on the successes of another party. I would much rather advise the leader of Good to concentrate on the massive corruption within the public transport system of George. This corruption is covered up by the individuals whom she derives her information from.
When we as politicians expose corruption, we should not expose corruption selectively.
Corruption remains an endemic, regardless of race or colour.
The PBI has dedicated it's life and existence to fighting corruption fearlessly and relentlessly.
This we have done in order to make sure that monies meant for the poor and needy, are
effectively utilised for the sole purpose of service delivery.
