GEORGE NEWS - It was a tumultuous weekend in Thembalethu, marked by a series of violent incidents and crime with three murders reported among other crimes.
Early on Sunday morning, 9 June, a 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Zone 6.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, police officers were dispatched to George Hospital where they found the victim with a wound to his chest. He was declared dead by medical personnel.
Details surrounding the incident that caused the boy's death, are still under investigation.
According to unconfirmed information the victim was involved in an altercation that led to his death after he and some young friends went to a party on Saturday night.
"No arrests has been made yet. Circumstances surrounding this killing is under investigation," said Spies.
Body found near river
In a separate incident, the body of a 27-year-old man was found near a river in Zone 6 on Saturday morning, 8 June. It is believed that the deceased was the victim of a mob justice attack that took place the previous night.
The victim was allegedly taken from his house by a group of people on Friday night, 7 June.
According to Sgt Chris Spies, Southern Cape police spokesperson, a murder docket was opened and the motive for the killing is yet to be established. "Allegations about the victim being taken from his residence the previous night, form part of the investigation," said Spies.
Police were called to the scene and the deceased was found with multiple injuries to his head and body.
No arrest has been made yet.
Man arrested for murder
On Saturday morning, Thembalethu police arrested a suspect (26) in connection with the death of Lorenzo Kannemeyer (22) in Asazani (Zone 6).
"Reports at our disposal reveal that police responded to a stabbing incident. The members found the victim with wounds to the chest and hand. Paramedics declared the victim dead on the scene," said Spies. The suspect was later arrested.
Investigation into the matter continues.

10 from Themba caught for drugs
A total of 316 suspects, of which 10 are from Thembalethu, were arrested in the Garden Route over the weekend during crime-combatting operations in the area.
Of these about 80 were arrested on drug-related charges, 46 for the possession of dangerous weapons, one for unlawful possession of ammunition and 20 for not being able to supply the correct documentation.
Most of these arrests took place in George, Oudtshoorn, Pacaltsdorp and Knysna.
On Sunday night, 9 June, Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team members conducted operations in Thembalethu during which they arrested the 10 suspects for possession of dangerous weapons and drugs.
Drugs with an estimated street value of R13 500 were confiscated during this operation.
