GEORGE NEWS - No arrests have been made after a shooting incident in Courtenay Street on Saturday 19 October that led to an attempted murder investigation.
According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, various shots were fired following an altercation between on-duty traffic officers and an alleged reckless driver who refused to stop.
Unconfirmed information suggests that the driver of a black BMW Z4 refused to stop after an attempt by traffic officers to pull him over.
The incident happened at around 23:00. The driver allegedly drove straight towards the officers at speed, without any indication that he would slow down or stop.
"Attempts to bring the vehicle to a halt were unsuccessful and he sped away," said Pojie. Traffic officers then fired various shots in the direction of the BMW.
"As a result, a case of discharge of a firearm in a municipal area had been registered as well," said Pojie.
The driver of the vehicle handed himself over to the police the following day. However, no arrests have been made as the docket is currently with the senior public prosecutor to decide whether to prosecute or not.
