GEORGE NEWS - The police are investigating two unrelated incidents that took place yesterday, Saturday 19 October. In one incident it is reported that various shots were fired in Courtenay Street following an altercation between on-duty traffic officers and an alleged reckless driver.
The second incident took place on the R102 near Reebok Village in the direction of Kleinbrak River, when a female cyclist in her 50s was hit with the side mirror of a passing car. She was transported to hospital in a serious condition.
Shooting incident
Provincial Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Malcolm Pojie confirmed that an attempted murder docket has been registered at the George police following an incident in Courtenay Street in George last night, Saturday 19 October at about 23:00.
"This followed after an altercation between on-duty traffic officers and an alleged reckless driver who refused to stop when he was pulled over by the traffic officials. Attempts to bring his black BMW to a halt was unsuccessful as he sped away," said Pojie.
"It is reported that various shots were fired in the direction of the car. As a result a case of discharge of a firearm in a municipal area had been registered as well. The circumstances surround the incident forms part of further investigations. No arrests have been made."
Female cyclist hit by side mirror
The police in Great Brak River registered a reckless and negligent driving docket for further investigation following a collision which left a female cyclist in a critical condition.
"It is alleged that the cyclist, in her 50s, was riding with her bicycle on the R102 near Reebok Village in the direction of Kleinbrak River when she was hit with the side mirror of a passing car driving in the same direction," said Pojie.
"She lost control and fell on the road surface. She was transported to hospital in a serious condition. The investigation continues."
