GEORGE NEWS - A man from Thembalethu, Siphumze Mbamvana (39), was arrested in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, on Wednesday 20 November, on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly stabbed his wife (36) in the head with a knife during an incident of domestic violence earlier in the month.
According to information, Mbamvana went to work the Monday before his arrest, but when he found out that the police were looking for him, he allegedly fled.
He was later apprehended by the Thembalethu police in Kwanokuthula and was in custody until Tuesday 26 November, when he was released on R1 000 bail and strict bail conditions.
Mbamvana, who is believed to work at the George Court, appeared for his bail application in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court.
He is being represented by Bulelani Jerome Bans of Bulelani Bans Attorneys Inc.
The bail conditions include that Mbamvana may not contact the complainant, he must reside at an alternative address (his sister's) in Thembalethu, and that his sister will handle all communication between him and the complainant.
The state opposed the bail application, but the court granted it. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday 14 January.
