GEORGE NEWS - A farm manager from the Hoekwil area near Wilderness was arrested after police officers and officers from the Department of Internal Affairs conducted a raid on a farm were illegal immigrants were allegedly employed.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies says a 39-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday 21 May and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on a charge of employing an illegal immigrant.
He was released on a warning and is due back in court on Wednesday 12 June.
An undocumented employee (26) who worked on the farm was also arrested after he was found without the necessary documentation in his possession. No further information about him is currently available.
Spies says the raid in Hoekwil forms part of several operations to enforce the law and combat illegal activities in the area.
This follows after 34 people died when a building collapsed in Victoria Street on Monday 6 May where numerous alleged illegal immigrants were working on the site.
