Update
GEORGE NEWS - The man arrested in connection with extortion during a sting operation in the Dormehlsdrift area last year, appeared in the George Regional Court on Thursday 6 March.
His identity cannot be disclosed until he has entered a plea.
He was arrested alongside four men and a woman at a house in Plattner Boulevard on Wednesday 20 March 2024, after George police responded to reports of a group allegedly threatening a business owner in the construction industry.
Following further investigation, authorities determined that the evidence against the woman, who is from Knysna, and the other co-accused was insufficient to support a reasonable prospect of conviction, and they were released.
The accused remains in custody and is set to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Regional Court on Thursday 20 March.
The case was transferred to Plettenberg Bay due to earlier trial availability.
