GEORGE NEWS - In his address to Council earlier this afternoon, George Mayor Leon van Wyk said George has seen a welcome decline in active cases over the last two days, since reaching the peak on Monday 26 July, when 2 769 active cases were reported.
“The first wave peaked at 783 on 27 July 2020 and the second wave peaked at 2 173 on 15 December 2021. George has the highest amount of active cases per 100 000 in the Western Cape,” said Van Wyk.
“George has 1 212 per 100 000 active cases, compared to the Garden Route with 851 per 100 000 and Western Cape with 491 per 100 000.”
“There are currently 2 545 active cases as at 13:00 on 28 July 2021 and 618 have succumbed to the virus. A total of 144 new infections has been reported in the last 24 hours. Distribution of the virus is widespread and no clear hotspot areas has been identified.
“The Garden Route currently has 5 269 active cases as at 13:00 on 28 July 2021 with 1 779 deaths.”
