GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - Are you looking for a comprehensive assessment of varicose veins and treatment which can be tailored to individual needs? Well, look no further - visit local vascular surgeon Dr Ariel Eyal at his new premises at Doneraile Square. Dr Eyal will relocate to Doneraile Square on 1 August.
Varicose veins is a common disorder occurring in up to 23% of people. They are caused by failing valves inside the blood vessels that bring blood from the rest of the body back to the heart.
Common causes of varicose veins include a family history, pregnancy and jobs which entail standing for long periods, such as nursing or teaching.
Until a few years ago, the only solution to these large, bulgy veins involved invasive surgery with the veins being physically stripped from the groin to the knee.
However, as technology and medical science have advanced, there are now new minimally invasive techniques available for treating these veins. One of the most popular techniques today involves using radiofrequency (RF) energy to ablate the veins.
This is a simple procedure that can be performed under local anaesthesia in the doctor's rooms. It involves inserting a thin tube (catheter) into the affected leg vein to direct the RF energy, causing scar tissue to form, which closes up the vein permanently.
The procedure is usually painless and takes about twenty minutes per leg. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure.
Most medical aids will pay for this surgery as a day case.
