The airline has withdrawn the suspension which was instituted just yesterday.
SAA says Sylvain Bosc had recently been placed on special leave following an investigation over a new flight route proposal.
The airliner says it has withdrawn an earlier statement announcing the immediate suspension Bosc.
It turns out he has not been notified of the outcome of a disciplinary inquiry against him.
In a statement, SAA apologises to Bosc, saying releasing the statement prematurely was not intended to cause damage to his reputation.
An investigation was launched after the CCO allegedly made misrepresentations to the SAA board about the Abu Dhabi route.
