GEORGE NEWS - Trailblazers is an opportunity for school leavers from George and surrounds to gain intensive on-the-job training and work experience at one of South Africa’s largest retail brand companies, FrontierCo.
The two-year programme will culminate with FrontierCo sponsoring selected graduates to further their studies at a higher learning institution.
CEO, Bernard Mostert, says, “Not only is FrontierCo proudly South African, we are proudly George. We look forward to taking on some smart, local matriculants who want to learn and gain valuable work experience. FrontierCo’s retail footprint stretches across fashion, footwear, travel, outdoor and eyewear with brands like GUESS, Aldo, Pringle of Scotland, Mr. Tekkie, Frasers, Destinations Outdoor & Travel, Advance, Call it Spring and SDM Eyewear to name a few.”
“We keep hearing: ‘I can’t get a job without experience; I can’t get experience without a job’,” says Dennis Symes, who has developed this programme.
“FrontierCo has undertaken to address this issue with our Trailblazers Internship Programme. This is a well-formulated programme designed to give our Trailblazers valuable on-the-job skills training and work experience in a dynamic retail environment.
“The programme is also designed to play an important role in recruiting the best possible candidates to take the company forward. Identifying and working with interns is one of the ways we aim to future proof FrontierCo in an ever-changing and demanding retail environment,” says Symes.
“We have met with all the schools in George, and the recruitment process is underway. Closing date for applications is 31 August 2022.” he says.
Interns will be rotated through the various FrontierCo departments like photography, social media, design, marketing, brand management, retail planning, finance, property and more. “In this way they can see what they enjoy, and we can see where their skills lie”, says Symes.
Mostert says: “Through this programme we hope to attract new young talent with fresh ideas and energy to all divisions within FrontierCo. We care about our community and hope to assist our school leavers with this opportunity to gain practical on-the-job skills and an understanding of how the company works.
"After the two years we look forward to sponsoring selected graduates’ tertiary studies or possibly employing them full time. We hope that many of these interns will become a part of our young and dynamic company.”
