SOUTHERN CAPE BUSINESS NEWS - The François Ferreira Academy, situated on the beautiful Garden Route in George, has an excellent reputation for training chefs of quality.
In the last 10 years all of their students have been placed in top facilities for their mentorships and, as a result, have found the best jobs in the industry.
During the two year course, the first year is spent studying culinary art, and then the students have the choice in their second year to continue in food preparation and cooking or to study food and beverage management, accommodation services and reception services.
Because we believe in a solid all-round education for our students, we also teach additional subjects such as hospitality, financial management, cake decorating and sugar work, event management, wine appreciation, entrepreneurship, and social etiquette. Students get invaluable practical experience during term time in working at functions for various hotels in the area, like the Simola Hill Climb and the Fancourt SATSA conference.
All the subjects are facilitated by professionals in their respective fields. Guest lecturers also present various specialist lectures such as workshops on plating, styling etc. All lectures are conducted in English as all City & Guilds lecture notes are in English.
They present the City & Guilds certificate and diploma in food preparation and cooking. This course runs over 24 months. They place students to do six months mentorship in the industry during this time.
They run the certificate and diploma programme concurrently, but international exams are written for both.
