Update
GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Dam remains at 100%, according to the latest weekly water statistics released on Tuesday, 6 October.
The dam recorded 11mm of rainfall during the past week, with the previous week's dam level also recorded at 100%.
The latest figures indicate that George has approximately 41 weeks of water supply remaining. The figure refers to water that can be pumped and treated, with water below the intake or treatment level excluded.
Despite the strong dam level, current daily water demand remains above the municipality's target.
The current daily demand is 37.5 million litres per day (MLD), compared with a target of 36MLD.
This means daily consumption is currently 1.5 million litres above the target.
Meanwhile, Haarlem Dam is recorded at 101.79%, with 10mm of rainfall recorded during the week. The previous week's level was also 101.79%.
The latest figures form part of the municipality's ongoing water demand management measures, which are currently at Level 2B.
Residents are urged to continue using water responsibly and to report water leaks and suspected misuse of drinking water.
Water leaks can be reported to 044 801 9262 / 66, while after-hours reports can be made on 044 801 6300. Suspected misuse of drinking water can be reported on 044 801 6350.
The municipality's latest water statistics provide a positive picture of dam levels, but the continued focus on managing daily demand remains important as the Garden Route heads into the warmer months.
