GEORGE NEWS - It's show time at York High School with It's Jazz Cabaret - a gigantic production that encompasses the school's entire dance squad, all its musicians and all its singers in one show.
Guests can expect a dance and music extravaganza with an incredible range of jazz styles including lyrical, afro, street, theatre and contemporary jazz.
Show times are next Wednesday to Friday, 16 to 18 August, at 19:00. Tickets cost R50 per person and are available at the school's reception during school hours, from 07:30 to 14:00.
Since the start of the second term, learners have been rehearsing non-stop for this spectacular production, a highlight on the school's cultural calendar for the year.
Dance teacher and show director Linda Johnson with her first-team dancers had the opportunity to test the waters in June with a short tour, showcasing some of the dance numbers at the South African Principals Association's provincial conference at the Houwhoek Inn, in Grabouw.

Since then learners have been at it right through the exams, July holidays and straight into the third term.
"Everything is coming together very nicely; we are very excited about our production," said Johnson. "Every second year York High takes on a project of this size, and for us it is fantastic to flaunt our dance items with the school's own orchestra and singers on stage."
