GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The Via Orlando hitmaker Dr Malinga is set to perform at the Southern Cape Almanac Festival in the Thembalethu Stadium on Reconciliation Day, Sunday 16 December.
After initial uncertainty as to his presence Dr Malinga, who was booked by George Finest, has confirmed with the event organisers as well as Idinga that he will be there. In addition he has posted a short video on his social media pages confirming his presence.
The Southern Cape Almanac Festival is held on 16 December to observe Reconciliation Day.
This is a day of great significance in South Africa because of two historical events that took place on this day that had particular importance for both African and Afrikaner communities.
It signifies the day the armed wing of the ANC started their fight against the apartheid regime and is the day that South Africa effectively celebrates the fall of apartheid.
The 16th originally marked a historic victory by the Voortrekkers over the Zulus in 1938 and has been celebrated annually by Afrikaners since as a religious holiday called "The Day of the Vow".
Today, its aim is to foster national unity and harmony between all races. The day looks to both remember, and move on from, the racially divisive politics that plagued the nation for decades.
The Southern Cape Almanac Festival promises an exciting time for young and old. Bring the whole family in the morning and stay all day - there will be activities to keep the kids happy, such as jumping castles, and for the adults entertainment will be provided by a number of artists from the region, with Dr Malinga's performance the highlight of the day.
