GEORGE NEWS - Opera music lovers will have an opportunity to enjoy the phenomenal voice of rising young opera star Chanté van der Westhuizen, a past Glenwood College matriculant, at her concert at the Glenwood House school hall on Wednesday 10 August.
She will be accompanied by another upcoming Georgian, pianist Throy Petersen.
She will present works by Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Donizetti, Strauss, Britten, Head, de Falla, Bizet and Van Wyk, which she typically sings effortlessly with a warmth of musical interpretation that leaves her audiences breathless.
Chanté, a 23-year old soprano, started her vocal training with Elisabeth Potgieter in George and with Minette du Toit-Pearce at the US, where she debuted as Amore in Gluck's Orpheo et Eurydice. She is currently studying an MA in voice at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Music in London.
Pianist Throy Petersen is well known in George. He obtained a BMus Hons (Performance) at the US under the tutelage of Prof Nina Schumann and has been accepted for further studies at Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute.
Tickets for this not-to-be-missed recital, which begins at 18:30 on Wednesday 10 August, are R120 per person, R80 for pensioners and free for school-going learners.
Seats can be pre-booked by sending an SMS to 084 645 9320 with the word "opera" and tickets will be for sale at the door. Card facilities will also be available on the night.
